SCQF

What is the SCQF Pathway?

The SCQF Pathway refers to the learning and progression routes mapped out using the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) which is Scotland’s national qualifications framework. The SCQF helps you understand and compare the many qualifications available across schools, colleges, universities, training programmes and work-based learning by assigning each one a level and credit value.

Every qualification from National 4 and 5 courses in high school to vocational awards and degree level study sits at an SCQF level between 1 and 12, showing the difficulty and amount of learning involved.

The SCQF Pathway helps you understand how your current qualifications link to future opportunities such as college, university, apprenticeships or employment. By showing the level of each qualification, it allows you to track your progress, see what comes next and make informed choices about your learning. It also recognises that there are many routes to success, supporting flexible combinations of school, vocational and other learning while helping you clearly explain your achievements and skills to employers and education providers.

The SCQF Pathway turns a range of options into a clear map of where you are now and where you can go next- putting you in control of your future.
